Thunderstruck...
So let's face it; it's been a while since the last update. But it has not been without good reason.
A couple weeks ago, I sent in a short audition video to the Oklahoma City Thunder to apply for their open position of Arena Host & Emcee. That was on Sept. 22. No more than one day later, I received a call inviting me to their invitation only audition (open to the public to watch) at the Bricktown Brewery that Thursday (just 2 days away at the time). I was one of 18 that were invited and felt a little over my head when I began hearing what several of the other auditioners did for a living (on-air radio personalities, radio executives, public address professionals, etc...). Needless to say, I gave it my best shot and was lucky enough to make the final 3 by the end of the night.
To make the rest of the story short and sweet, we had one final 'audition' at the Ford Center in downtown OKC. It was no more than a week later that I received a call to inform me that I had WON THE JOB!!! I about dropped the phone and swerved off the road when I heard the news. However, I was not be be outdone by my wife's scream when she heard the news.
So far we have made it through the first home pre-season game against the L.A. Clippers, and are looking forward to opening night on Oct. 29th! The whole experience has been as surreal as it gets. I still am unsure if it's for real, but I will keep living the dream until someone wakes me up.
Below is a picture my wife and I took downtown for a newpaper that was covering the story of my journey thus far. I hope to see many of you at the games soon, and keep checking back as I hope to bring some exclusive pictures, and possible video, from the 'behind the scenes' view. Until then, hang tight!
